Attended the NASA Data Systems Working Group Meeting in Baltimore

dealing with issues related to upgrade of desktop os to Linux Fedora Core 4. Basically I haven't upgraded my development software for 1.5 years and had to upgrade to newer versions, including Apache tomcat, Apache tomcat client deployer, Apache Ant, Java SDK 1.5, Eclipse 3.1.1, eXist Native XML database (20050805 build), and other related software.
Reading TerraServer 6.0 Specification
Slogging through Mapserver tutorial
Continuting work on ES3 client library
ESIP metrics
Met with Danielle Forsythe from Thetus. She demoed some new functionality of their 'Thetus Publisher' proprietary software. It appears that the main purpose of her trip (we were not her only UCSB meeting) was to renew interest in having us as a Thetus test site, this time using SnowREASoN processing/products.

resuming work on ES3 client library
includes 'manual' lineage/metadata collection mechanism that will allow more complete (user defined) metadata to be associated with workflows. This will be based on a templating mechanism whereby XML templates are defined by the user then automatically filled out during program execution.
preparing for Data Systems Working Group conference later this month by reading past meeting minutes and brushing up on web services technologies
started learning Minnesota MapServer
can use this to compare/contrast TerraServer functionality

working with Tom on new ROI for MODSCAG for Merced folks
MODster
get back to UMD and UNH regarding ingesting their URLs
TIWG web services / ESIP web services cluster
"technological barriers to integrating ADL"; Karen Moe
ES3
Protocol Specification out for review
run by Frew, Greg, Dominic w/in 2 weeks
2005-08-26
generate GeoTIFF output from MODIS subset operation
add capability to ingest GeoTIFF files into our data holdings, which sounds easy enough but has in practice been alot of work
resurrect MODster, solicite URLs to add to MODster from ESIP/REASoN members
very little work on integrating Probulator, ES3 client, ES3 Protocol document, ES3 client library
Finished basic implementation of several ES3 Core services: registerFile, lookupFile, storeMetadata, getMetadata, getObject
registered for the NOAA/NGDC CLASS User's workshop
2005-07-14
Continuing development of ES3 Core
working with ICESS sysadm staff to aquire SPOT data
update on aquiring the rest of our MODIS data
LP DAAC doesn't support us sending a disk array and them filling it
we will continue to use MTMGW but will be allowed to make more frequent requests
2005-06-13 through 2005-06-16
attended ESIP conference in San Diego

creation of mosaiced images is now part of our processing pipeline. Currently we create mosaiced images for Sierra ROI for MOD09GHK, MOD09GST, MODMGGAD. These are available on the EIL digital library page at http://eil.bren.ucsb.edu:8080/mw2_wc/query_builder.jsp using the collections named _aea, f-or example 'mod09ghk_aea'. Or you can browse directly at http://eil.bren.ucsb.edu/products/MODIS/data/MOD09GHK_AEA, for example.
completed a very basic Python http api for MODster. This API will be used to store MODster URLs for all MODIS data ingested into EIL.

ES3 Core
Began using Berkeley DB JE (Java Edition) for maintaining lineage information in ES3 Core. This looks to be a very robust and fast embedded database engine that we can use for lineage info as well as admin info that ES3 Core maintains.
EIL Data Center
Added product MODMGGAD to EIL data ingest and reprocessing. The MODMGGAD product contains the solar illumination and instrument viewing geometry angles that Tom Painter is using for MODSCAG. Currently we are obtaining/subsetting for the Sierra ROI only, until more disk space is available.
