Mammoth retreat postmortem
Summary of Barclay comments:
- no more science input (for a while, anyway)
- build something they can futz with before you bug them again
- what is success? write down & keep in everybody's faces
- from TerraServer: "8 bullet points"
- where are we starting from? write down:
- what's done
- what are we stealing from ESSW?
- what needs to be done
What is Success? (try to boil down to <= 8)
- Snowpeople prefer to get their data products from us.
- Water resource managers want our data products.
- We can map snow under vegetation.
- NoARSE is why we get new funding.
- Snowpeople do better work because of our data products.
- We have the best xxx algortihm, for all xxx we do.
- We're a better snow DAAC than The Snow DAAC.
- Snowpeople make better products with ES3.
- Bill Gates thinks we're really cool.
- You can get to our products thru a map.
- None of our products are more than 6 clicks away.
- We've made lineage work for real products.
- Our products have the metadata you want.
- Other people use ES3 to make their own products.
3 ways to be an ES3
- individual providers
- grow locally as demand increases
- broker
- "retail" site for "private" providers
- only broker needs to deal with increased demand
- UCSB "DAAC"
- all products generated here
- local "sandboxes" for indvidual providers
Short-term tech issues
- ESSW carry-forward
- detailed list of what we're keeping
- (new people e.g. Tom B. especially need this)
- SCA product chains established
- for each data provider
- Peter
- Walter
- Tom P.
- Roger
- we need to characterize
- input
- output
- metadata
- algorithm
- lineage
- how capture at each data provider
- how transfer (Raj or ...?)
