2007 April Meeting in Mammoth
Agenda
- Tues. April 3
- Wed. April 4
- MODSCAG processing at UCSB
- automate processing so no manual intervention required
- for near-real time processing
- for Web based requests
- Painter says that his MODSCAG scripts are very close to being fully automated
- we did not resolve any code sharing issues (Configuration Management)
- if MODSCAG is integrated into the EIL automatic processing, there will most certainly be changes to scripts
- how will changes be made at UCSB that will not be destroyed when updates to MODSCAG are made?
- Frew says that Peter should setup a Subversion repository
- code running at EIL must be checked into Subversion before it can run here
- two kinds of requests
- ROIs that we current have defined
- ROIs that we do not have currently defined
- clusterizing processing
- currently one day runs on one cluster node
- each spectral library for one day should run on a node
- space-time interpolation (using MATLAB)
- automate processing
- need for database system to keep track of products and files
- how propagate to cluster
- Dozier wants Peter to create an SQL Server db that contains info he needs to find snow granules from Matlab
- i.e. field, ROI, time, URL
- can use the Python package 'pymssql' for this (http://pymssql.sourceforge.net/)
- MODSCAG product distribution
- browsing existing products
- Dozier asks if we need a WMS for this
- request additional products
- any GUI should be extremely simple, Dozier gives the example of http://patrol.mammothmountain.com/ as a useful UI that allows access to much info with simple navigation
- Dozier wants us to try out World Winds (http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/) for distributing the snow products
- this is a Windows only solution
- we all need to start using Windows komputers
- Painter agrees wholeheartedly with this proposal
- we are still contractually obligated to use Windows for Microsoft support of SnowREASoN
- Microsoft funding may be available for MEaSUREs so we should begin making the change now
- for current ROIs
- for new ROIs
- Microsoft involvement
- Tony Hey (MS VP for high-performance computing) is interested in funding
- Catharine van Ingen (MS research) is interested in helping
