Thetus demo

Demo of FiSL Solution (Fire mapping at Fire Sciences Lab)

Triggers

tripped when files appear in a directory
launch conditions must be met (metadata values) for the trigger to fire

Setting up project

define ontology
- NASA product definitions
HDF attributes converted to XML, then dumped into Thetus
unknown properties are automatically added
relationships can be imported via an OWL file
ontologies can be mapped to each other

internals
- 2 databases
  - resources db (catagories, properties, descriptions)
  - search db (inversion of resources db - relationship db)
    - properties outward?
    - linked together index list
    - can do set operations easily (this catagory + that category)

ontology problem
- incremental update of relationship db

use of Thetus by EIL
- snow algorithms
  - tracking changes
  - automatic reprocessing when algorithms change
- build snow ontology
- eventually use thetus to manage processing

we will get a grad student to hook up thetus with our snow processing and call back Thetus
